Dodog Soeseno

Indonesia – the Netherlands, Utrecht

In earlier days, Indonesia, Dodog’s country of origin, was never absent of his works of art.
However, in recent years he has had intensive contact with Japan, its culture and its artists.
He has exhibited in Tokyo, Shikoku, Nagasaki, Okinawa and it is hardly surprising that this has had an influence on his creativity.
Roland Barthes has called Japan: the Empire of Signs, and there have been always symbolic elements in Dodog’s paintings.
The new source of inpiration has led him to evolve from previous romantic-erotic dreams towards a more universal interest in his work. The spontaneous and freee handling of brushstrokes and paint remains unchanged, revealing the fundamental artistic passion of Dodog Soeseno.
